Venabu is a traditional family run hotel one hour’s drive north of Lillehammer. We have been arranging guided hikes and walks for more than 20 years. During your stay you will not only enjoy the good food but the peace and quiet of the mountains and have the opportunity to experience nature at its best. All our rooms have comfortable beds and en-suite facilities. A warm welcome by our friendly staff awaits you. .
We have a varied weekly programme during the summer season. Starting on the 16th June and finishing at the end of August. New for 2012 are special “themed weeks” and some we call "Out in the unknown".
You can walk to one of the peaks in Rondane, visit canyons and waterfalls, find tracks of wild reindeer, hike over the lichen covered plateau and visit summer farms just to mention some of the organised walks. Every Wednesday evening we serve traditional Norwegian food of the area.
 

"The light Nordic nights" June 23rd to 30^th. 7 night’s full board, including a midnight walk as well as the usual walking tours during the day.  NOK 7.900, for a twin room a supplement of NOK 490, for a small single room or NOK 1.520, for a bigger single room.

"In the homeland of the wild reindeer" June 30^th to 7^th July. Walk in the beautiful lichen covered landscape, where special formations can be seen; some people think it resembles the landscape of the moon. Here the last herd of European tundra reindeer have survived since the Ice Age ended about 10.000 years ago. You will learn more about how they survived and the old hunting culture, as well as having spectacular walks.
NOK 8.550 per person in twin room. Single room supplement NOK 490, in a small single room and NOK 1520, in a bigger single room.

"Family walking - activities for families with children" from 14th to 21st July.  During this week there will be guided walks from 1-5 hours. We will discover what we can find in the environment, play and have a nice picnic.
Prices with half board, packed lunch and a filled thermos flask:
3 nights NOK 3.885 per person.
5 nights NOK 6.050, per person.
7 nights NOK 8.350, per person.
One child under 12 years stays free.  Children 6-15 years half price and children under 6 years pay 25% of the adult price.  Riding available pay a supplement locally, other activities described in the programme are free.

"On foot in the mountains and the open air play Peer Gynt with Grieg's music" - A perfect combination of out-door activities from 29th July to 2nd August.  Guided walks Monday and Tuesday and the Peer Gynt play Wednesday evening. Extra days can be arranged.
4 nights NOK 4.580,- per person in twin rooms including all meals.  Supplement NOK 280,- for a small single room and NOK 1.000,- for a bigger single room.
 

“Autumn in the Norwegian mountains", from 19th August to 24th August.  This is the time when the colours are coming, the berries are ripe and the mushrooms are tempting. This is a very good time for photography.  Varied walks and cultural events are programmed for this week.
NOK 6.200,- per person in twin rooms.  Supplement NOK 350,- for a small single room and NOK 1.250,- for a bigger single room.
 

"Out in the unknown" - short and longer tours varying from day to day in the weeks where we do not have the other walking programmes.  Stay one week or just a couple of days, and sign up for the tours the evening before.  Some tours will be all day, and others just a couple of hours or half day.  The price is according to the length of tour and any transfers are included.  3-7 nights - see ordinary price list.

If you don't have a whole week to spend, you’re welcome to join us for individual trips. 

 

Elk/moose safari
These safaris are normally on Tuesday evenings in June and July.  We go by minibus to places we are pretty sure to see these magnificent animals.  Start approx 8pm and back before midnight.
Supplement NOK 350,-.  Sign up in the reception.
 
 
We have transfer from Oslo Airport Gardermoen at 2pm every Saturday in the season.
