Christmas in the mountains 2012
Welcome to Christmas celebration at Venabu! We celebrate
Christmas as a
traditional large family would once have done, with
Christmas dinner, singing around the Christmas tree and
a visit from Father Christmas. We welcome singles,
families & couples from around the world. The days and evenings
are filled with a variety of activities: Horse
sleigh rides, Christmas service in the Stave Church, New
year concert, traditional food & folk music. Live dance
music in the evenings or quiet reading in front of the
open fire. Join in the group
activities or enjoy your own corner alone.
Some days we have a
guided ski tour before lunch and horse and sleigh ride
in the afternoon. Horse and sleigh must be ordered at
least some days in advance, and costs NOK 320,- per
person for 20 minutes' ride. Same price for
children. Our guides will
teach you how to ski and take you out for tours - sign
up in the reception (supplement). Dogsleigh one
day will also be on option, NOK 390,- per person, half
hour. Children under 12 years NOK 290,-. Has to be ordered in advance and minimum 8
persons. We also have two guides available for
those who want ski tuition or guided ski tours -
supplement.

Wednesday 19th December we
open for the winter season and Christmas
Saturday 22nd December:
We recommend you to go on a
peaceful walk or ski trip on your own. There is also a
possibility to go down to Ringebu to do some shopping,
supplement for transfer. Coffee and Christmas
cookies in the lounge during the afternoon. Dinner and
relaxing in front of the open fire.
Sunday 23rd
December:
Coffee and Christmas cookies in the afternoon. We enjoy a nice buffet
in the evening. Lars shows his
slideshow about Venabu and the mountains after dinner,
comments in Norwegian. Live music in the lounge during
the evening
Christmas Eve 24th
December:
Breakfast in the morning and time to relax and enjoy the
views or take a ski trip. Christmas lunch. In the
afternoon we serve coffee, traditional Christmas cookies
and background piano music. Before dinner we meet in the
lounge for a glass of sherry. We serve a traditional
Norwegian Christmas dinner with pork ribs and sausage as
the main course. For vegetarians we have a nice
alternative. After dinner we listen to the Christmas reading, sing
Christmas carols (in a variety of languages) while
walking around the
Christmas tree and wait for Father Christmas to arrive.
Christmas Day 25th
December:
After a good breakfast there’s an opportunity to join us
at the Christmas service in the 800 year old Ringebu
Stave Church (NOK 150,- for the bus trip), returning in
time for lunch. Coffee, Christmas cookies and music in
the lounge during the afternoon. In the evening we
enjoy a varied buffet, and afterwards Lars shows his
slide show about the Peer Gynt Show from Gålåvatnet.
Boxing Day 26th
December:
Opportunities to walk down
to the local mountain chapel or the nearby shop, back
before lunch. Coffee and Christmas cookies, and live
background piano music at 4 pm. During the evening
we serve our popular and traditional Norwegian Buffet.
Halldis gives us an introduction of the different
courses before the meal starts. After dinner; Halldis
shows her slide show about the mountain flora. Music for
dancing.
Thursday 27th
December:
Go for a walk, try out our
snow shoes in the loose snow, or go for a ski trip -
maybe down to our neighbour for a cup of hot chocolate?
Lunch at 2 pm. In the evening we serve a nice buffet with both
hot and cold dishes. After dinner, you can enjoy the
live music.
Friday
28th December:
Opportunities do try out dog sleigh rides at 11 am,
either as a passenger or try to drive your own team.
Sign up. Lunch at 2 pm. Buffet in the evening. Lars shows his
slide show about Venabu and the mountain with comments
in English. Live music during the evening.
Saturday
29th
December:
Guided ski tour after breakfast. In the evening we serve
our Norwegian Buffet with
traditional dishes. Halldis gives us an introduction of
the different courses before the meal starts. After
dinner; Halldis shows her slide show about the mountain
flora. Enjoy the live music, while sitting in front of
the open fire place, or get some exercise by dancing.
Sunday 30th December:
Guided ski tour before lunch.
In the afternoon there is
the opportunity to go on a horse sleigh ride, booking in
advance. The evening meal is a nice buffet, and
our musician will play for entertainment and dancing.
New Years Eve:
We arrange a New
Year’s Eve concert in the mountain chapel at 4 pm.
We walk back to the hotel with torches and get a hot
drink. In the
evening we meet for a pre-dinner aperitif. Dinner is a 3
course meal followed by a dessert buffet. We also have
a break to listen to the King’s speech on the radio in
the dining room. At midnight we serve a glass of
champain as the New Year is rung in,
followed by a lot of
lights out doors (we do not have noisy fire works). We serve night food before heading for
bed.
Tuesday 1st
January: New Year’s lunch and a nice buffet
in the evening. During the evening Lars will show his
slide show with comments in English. The first evening
of the new year
is enjoyed in peace and quiet in front of the open
fire place.
