Venabu Fjellhotell lies at an altutude of 932m on road 27, "Rondevegen", on the mountain pass between Gudbrandsdalen & Østerdalen, just south of Rondane National Park. We are shown on the Google map at the bottom of this page.
In 2008 the Enden to Folldal section of road 27 was appointed as the Rondane National Tourist Road.
Airport transfer - winter season only
Price: 520 NOK per person, one way.
The closest airport to Venabu is Oslo Gardermoen. We offer our own direct bus to and from the airport every Saturday in the winter season (also in connection with the Christmas holidays). This service must be booked in advance.
Departure form Gardermoen 2pm. Return 9am the following Saturday, with arrival Gardermoen 1pm. The transfer time is about three hours.
Travel to Venabu by train or ferry, alternatives to flying
It is possible to travel to Venabu without flying from Europe and the UK. The website www.seat61.com has plenty of detailed and helpful information on routes, prices, booking and lots of suggestions to guide you through the process of planning your journey to Venabu from the UK or from within continental Europe.
Arrival by train:
Travel by train to get to Ringebu ( the closest station to Venabu) is straightforward and rail services in Norway are excellent. At Oslo Gardermoen airport (lufthavn) the railway station is in the same building as the airport, downstairs. Buying tickets is easy: online, at the ticket machines or in person. You'll find that the station staff speak excellent English and everything is well signposted.
Booking ahead - once you know your flights and you have decided to travel by train it makes sense to book your rail journey. It is best to book ahead as the trains can become booked up - everyone has a seat, no standing. Booking ahead may give you the option of a reduced price ticket, the minipris ticket, though this is non refundable. The Vy website is easy to use and has an English version.
Take the train to Ringebu on the Dovre railway line. It's a scenic journey of about two and a half hours from Oslo Gardermoen. Oslo city centre and Lillehammer are on the same rail line.
We will pick you up from the railway station in Ringebu if you book this service with us in advance, please see below. The transfer time to the hotel from the station is about twenty minutes.

We can pick you up from either Ringebu or Lillehammer railway stations by prior arrangement.
Price from/to Ringebu one way:
250 NOK per person (during our 'core' hours)
Between 8pm and 8am 300 NOK per person, one way.
Price from/to Lillehammer one way:
2500 NOK for 1 - 4 persons,
for 5 persons or more: 500 NOK per person.

Arrival by car:
Follow E6 to Frya, 5km north of Ringebu centre, then road 27 signposted Venabygd/Folldal ca 16km.
E6 to Hjerkinn, road 29 to Folldal, then road 27 to Venabu, Norwegian Scenic Route, Rondane.
Please note road 27 is a mountain road and can be closed at short notice during the winter if there is bad weather. Road 27 is closed at night during the winter, east of Venabu between Spidsbergseter and Enden. This road closure doesn't routinely affect the road up from Ringebu.
Road 30 to Tynset, then road 3 to Alvdal, road 29 to Folldal & road 27 to Venabu (Ringebu).
Road 3 to Koppang, then road 219 to Enden & road 27 to Venabu (Ringebu). From Elverum it is the same distance if you drive the main E6 road.
